Master’s Program Proposal Defense Procedure
Step 1. Thesis Proposal Initial Draft Approval
After completing the initial draft of your thesis proposal (the first three chapters), you must have the content approved by your advisor before proceeding to the next step.
Step 2. Confirm Oral Defense Date and Time
You are responsible for contacting your oral defense committee members directly to schedule the date and time of the defense.
[Regarding Online Oral Defense] According to the principles set by the Office of Academic Affairs, all oral defenses must be conducted in person (physical attendance). If you have special circumstances requiring an application for an online oral defense, please contact the institute office first.
Step 3. Book the Oral Defense Room
- Please check with the department office yourself to find out which classrooms are available.
- If you are unable to come to campus, please entrust a classmate to assist you with the booking.
- To book Room 401-1 or 401-2, please contact the Graduate Institute of Digital Learning and Education Office (Room 605).
- To book Room 701 or 836, please contact the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences Office (Room 705).
Step 4. Prepare and Submit Hardcopy Application Documents to the institute office [at least 2 weeks before the oral defense](Click here to go to the document download area)
M-1 Master Thesis Oral Proposal Hearing Application Form: Be sure to get your advisor's signature or authorize the institute office to apply the official stamp on your behalf.
Step 5. Send Your Thesis
You are responsible for preparing envelopes and other necessary materials to send the initial thesis draft to your committee members. You may also send it electronically.
Step 6. Arrange Parking for Committee Members [at least 1 week before the oral defense]
- Please confirm with your committee members if they require parking.
- If needed, you can collect parking coupons from the institute office.
Step 7. Prepare Oral Defense Documents [at least 2 days before the oral defense]

- Prepare the following documents:
- M-2 Master Thesis Review Form (1 copy for each committee member).
- M-3 Thesis Proposal Oral Defense Receipt (Be sure to read the instructions on the first page of the file before you print it).
Step 8. Conduct the Oral Defense
You must complete the thesis proposal oral defense by the deadline established for the current semester.
Step 9. Submit Oral Defense Documents for Archiving [within 2 business days after the oral defense]
After the oral defense, please submit the following documents to the institute office within two business days:
- M-2 Master Thesis Review Form
- M-3 Thesis Proposal Oral Defense Receipt
Step 10. Enter Information into the Student Information System [within 2 business days after the oral defense]
- After the oral defense, log in to the student information system, go to Thesis and Advisor Information, and enter the relevant details of your thesis within two business days.
- Upon completing the above steps, you will have successfully passed your thesis proposal oral defense. The earliest you can proceed with your degree oral defense is three months later.
- Reminder: Please discuss with your advisor as early as possible to complete your thesis writing and apply according to the established procedures.
