Master’s Program Thesis Defense Procedure

Step 1. Initial Thesis Draft Approval and Graduation Requirements Confirmation

After completing the initial draft of your thesis, you must obtain approval from your thesis advisor before proceeding to the next steps. Please also ensure that you have met all graduation requirements.

  • Graduation Requirements
  1. Completion of 30 credits for graduation.
  2. Passing the Academic Ethics course.
  3. Publication of at least one conference paper.
  4. You must fulfill the following course requirements
  1. Thesis Seminar I and Thesis Seminar II (0 credits).
  2. "Methodology" Field:
  1. "Educational Research Methods" (3 credits) is a required course.
  2. You must take at least 3 additional credits from the following courses:Advanced Educational Statistics (3 credits), Survey and Statistics (3 credits), Qualitative Research Methods (3 credits), Educational Statistics (3 credits), Educational Research Paper Writing (3 credits).
  3. Any additional courses taken in this field can be counted toward your elective credits.
  1. Professional Elective Courses:
  1. You must take 8 courses, totaling 24 credits, from the following three fields: "Digital Learning Psychology and Strategies", "Science and Information Education", "Digital Content and System Design".

Step 2. Confirming Oral Defense Date and Time

You are responsible for contacting your oral defense committee members to schedule the date and time of your defense.

[Regarding Online Oral Defense]: According to the principles of the Office of Academic Affairs, all oral defenses must be conducted in person. If you have special circumstances and need to apply for an online oral defense, please contact the institute office first.

Step 3. Book the Oral Defense Room by yourself

  • You are responsible for contacting the institute office to inquire about available classrooms.
  • If you cannot come to the campus in person, you can ask another classmate to assist you.
  • To book Room 401-1 or 401-2, please contact the Graduate Institute of Digital Learning and Education Office at Room 605.
  • To book Room 701 or 836, please contact the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences Office at Room 705.

Step 4. Prepare and Submit Hardcopy Application Documents

Please refer to the institute's website announcement (all documents must be submitted in hardcopy):

  • M-4 Master Thesis Oral Proposal Exam Application Form (Click here to go to the document download area). Be sure to get your advisor's signature or authorize the institute office to apply the official stamp.
  • M-5-1 Transcripts of All Semesters (Please print this on the first floor of the Administration Building).
  • M-5-2 M-5-2 Proof of Publication(Example)

Step 5. Official Stamping of the Committee Invitation Letter [at least 2 weeks before the oral defense]

  • Please download the M-6 Appointment Letter and fill in the oral defense details.
  • The Chinese version is acceptable for all committee members unless a member is a foreign national.
  • Bring the printed hardcopy to the institute office to be stamped with the official seal.

Step 6. Send the Invitation Letter and Thesis

  • You are responsible for preparing envelopes and other necessary materials to send the Invitation Letter and the initial thesis draft to your committee members.
  • You may also send them electronically.

Step 7. Arrange Parking for Committee Members [at least 1 week before the oral defense]

  • Please personally confirm if your committee members require parking.
  • If needed, you can collect parking coupons from the institute office.

Step 8. Post the Oral Defense Poster [at least 2 days before the oral defense]

  • You are responsible for designing the oral defense poster.
  • You can print the poster at the institute office.
  • Please post the poster at the elevator entrance on the 6th floor and on the door of the oral defense classroom.

Step 9. Prepare Oral Defense Documents [at least 2 days before the oral defense]

After logging into the NTUST Student Information System, go to "Personal Information""Thesis and Advisor Information" to register the details online, and then print the following documents:

  • M-7-1  Master's Thesis Recommendation Form (1 copy).
  • M-7-2 Qualification Form dy Master's Degree Examination Committee (1 copy): The advisor must sign in both the "Committee Member" and "Advisor" fields. Other committee members should sign only in the "Committee Member" field.
  • M-7-3 Thesis Defense Examination Evaluation Form(Master's Degree) (1 copy for each committee member).
  • M-7-4 GraduateStudentThesisAcademicEthicsandAuthenticationofOriginalityStatement.
  • M-8 Master's Thesis Oral Defense Receipt (Be sure to read the instructions on the first page of the file before you print it yourself).

Operating Instructions

Step 10. Oral Defense

  • You must complete the oral defense by the deadline for the current semester.
  • After the oral defense, please submit the documents from Step 9 to the department assistant within two business days.

Step 11. Submit Oral Defense Documents for Archiving [within 2 business days after the oral defense]

  • After completing your oral defense, please submit the documents from Step 9 to the institute office within two business days.
  • Important: Once you have completed the above steps, you have passed the degree oral defense. You may only proceed with the departure procedures after you have revised your thesis.
  • Reminder: Please discuss with your advisor as early as possible to complete your thesis and follow the process for your application.
